Mahi Binebine

 

Mahi Binebine is a Moroccan painter, sculptor and author, born in Marrakesh in 1959. He studied mathematics in Paris and taught the subject for eight years.

He then devoted himself to writing and painting. He emigrated to New York from 1994 to 1999. Binebine’s paintings are now part of the permanent collection at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Binebine returned to Marrakech in 2002 where he currently lives and works.

He published his first novel, The Sleep Slave, in 1992 and has gone on to write a further 9 novels, which have been translated into a dozen languages. In 2020, Mahi won the Mediterranean Prize for his novel The Street of Forgiveness.The King’s Fool is his latest novel, published in English in 2020.
